The UN has published a new report which shines a light on some of the most innovative, scalable and practical examples of what people across the globe are doing to tackle climate change.

The report features initiatives which range from a project by Google to map out how roofs of homes in the United States can be used for clean solar energy to a project in Morocco which harvests drinking water from fog.

The report was compiled by the team of Momentum for Change, an initiative spearheaded by UN Climate Change. It constitutes the 2016 annual report of the initiative, which celebrates climate action at awards ceremonies at major UN Climate Change Conferences. The next round of awards will be presented at the UN Climate Change Conference in Bonn in November.

Momentum for Change Patricia Espinosa, Executive Secretary of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, said:

“Now that the era of implementation of the Paris Climate Change Agreement has begun, each of the Momentum for Change lighthouse activities serves as a real-world reminder that climate action is not just possible – it is the path we must get on to achieve the goals laid out in Paris.”

“The 2016 Momentum for Change projects also show that climate action is good for people – making a positive difference in lives and livelihoods, opening opportunity and protecting the planet we all share. These projects are snapshots of success,” she added.

This new interactive digital report brings the projects, called Lighthouse Activities, to life through compelling data-driven stories, featuring video, pictures and infographics.

A total of 13 climate action projects are covered in detail in the report, covering three focus areas:
