During the UN Climate Change Conference in Bonn (1-11 June), the UNFCCC secretariat is organizing a Climate Action Fair to showcase action already taking place on the ground.

The climate action fair is designed to illustrate the discussions taking place during the Bonn meeting in Technical Expert Meetings on renewable energy supply and energy efficiency in urban areas.

This is part of the work of governments to raise climate ambition before 2020, when the universal Paris 2015 agreement currently under negotiation is to take effect.

The fair showcases the activities of governments and of non-state actors supports the Lima-Paris Action Agenda, designed to demonstrate the wealth of climate action among cities, regions, companies and investors, including those under international cooperative initiatives.

Wandee Khunchornyakong runs Solar Power Company Group, the largest solar power generation company in Thailand. She will be one of the renewable energy experts taking part in the Climate Action Fair

The Climate Action Fair consists of a number of side events, exhibits, a dialogue series, a networking reception and the Climate Action Fair Virtual Expo:

  • Dialogue series: The secretariat will host a lunchtime dialogue series to showcase (1) climate solutions by non-state actors, such as the business sector and cities and (2) support provided by the UNFCCC institutions and international organizations.

  • Visibility campaign: In collaboration with We Mean Business, ICLEI and C40, the secretariat will set up advertisements in key locations throughout Bonn. Exhibits and posters showcasing climate solutions by non-state actors will be visible at the World Conference Centre.

  • Networking event: On 5 June from 18:30 to 20:00, the UNFCCC secretariat in collaboration with the German Development Institute / Deutsches Institut für Entwicklungspolitik (DIE) and Galvanizing the Groundswell of Climate Actions (GGCA) will host a networking reception with the theme “Galvanizing a groundswell movement for transformational solutions towards a low-carbon and climate resilient future.”

  • Side events: Presentations will be given by a variety of stakeholders, including non-state actors, which focus on renewable energy and energy efficiency in urban areas. These side events will take place from 3 to 6 June in the designated ‘Climate Action Fair’ room. A side event by the Momentum for Change initiative takes place on 4 June from 18:30 to 20:00. The event will feature four previous Lighthouse Activity winners, Solar Power Company Group, Earth Roofs in the Sahel Program, Lighten the Energy Bill, and Redavia, who will showcase their renewable energy solutions.

  • Virtual expo: An online platform to virtually showcase information related to the in-session technical expert meeting topics has been launched on the UNFCCC website.

The Earth Roofs in the Sahel Program is creating a market of climate friendly homes that reduce poverty and improve lives. They will speak about the program at the Climate Action Fair.
