Education, training and public awareness on climate change - "Action for Climate Empowerment" (ACE) - is the focus of Article 6 of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.  Staff and delegates engaged in Action for Climate Empowerment are working alongside UN agencies and youth organizations to host two thematic days on youth and education at the UN Climate Change Conference in Paris, on 3 and 4 December.

UNFCCC delegates are already joining young individuals and youth organizations to attend the 11th Conference of Youth (COY11) 26 to 28 November in Paris in the run up to COP21. The event, taking place at Parc des Expositions of Villepinte, is the largest COY to date with over 4000 participants expected. There, young people will raise climate change awareness and mobilization in order to inspire and federate more young people on climate stakes.

Young and Future Generations Day, on Thursday, 3 December, is a non-stop celebration of youth power and participation at COP21/CMP11. The day will include an Intergenerational Inquiry and other youth-led side events, workshops and activities to showcase innovative, ambitious and creative climate action taken by young people around the world. Youth leaders and high level representatives will hold discussions, giving young people a voice in the midst of this important conference.

Find more information on the Intergenerational Inquiry, where UNFCCC Executive Secretary, COP21 Presidency and Secretary General’s Envoy on Youth will join young delegates to share inspirational stories of youth climate action.

A full list of activities during Young and Future Generations Day can be found here.

#Youth4Climate - a social media campaign to inspire young people to take action on climate change.

Education Day, on Friday, 4 December, will share inspiring stories of good practices and lessons learned on formal and non-formal climate change education. The UN side event will motivate an exchange of knowledge and scale up formal climate change education within the curricula. The UN Alliance Side Event will then identify innovative ways to promote non-formal education with a special focus on alternative approaches of learning, such as music, social media and video games.

Reception and Award Ceremony on the Friday evening will illustrate the power of media to connect and inspire young people around the world to take climate action. The winner of the Global Youth Video Competition will be presented. In addition the winning videos of the Day4Climate competition will be presented, a Connect4Climate and World Bank initiative.

Throughout COP21/CMP11 numerous other youth and education activities will take place, including High Level Youth Briefings, Mini Youth Side Events, and events organized at a UN Youth Booth.
