UN Climate Change
The incoming Moroccan Presidency of the UN Climate Change Conference in Marrakech in November (COP22) has published a summary of the first global Forum of Alliances and Coalitions of the Action Agenda, which took place on 23 and 24 June in Rabat.
The action agenda is an important support and catalyst to the early and effective implementation of the landmark Paris Climate Change Agreement concluded at the end of last year.
The forum gathered around 450 people representing a diversity of stakeholders, including governments, multilateral institutions, non-governmental organizations, private sector, alliances and coalitions.
The Forum was intended to provide a discussion space to take stock after the UN Climate Change Conference in Paris (COP21) and of progress made on climate action.
The event took place after the nomination of the first two High Level Climate Champions - Ms. Laurence Tubiana, French Ambassador for Climate Change and Ms. Hakima El Haite, Minister Delegate to the Minister of Energy, Mines, Water and Environment of Morocco - and the publication of their common roadmap and call for inputs.
Submissions of views from governments and non-state stakeholders on the French and Moroccan climate champions' vision to boost climate action are welcome and can be submitted up until August 1, 2016. All documents, including a description on how to submit inputs, can be found here.
