During COP 21, the LPAA partners will respond to the ‘Lima Call for Climate Action’ launched at COP 20 by convening a series of events that showcase actions and commitments by LPAA stakeholders. The main Action Day is scheduled for Saturday, 5 December and will feature a High Level Meeting on Climate Action. Before and after Action Day, a series of LPAA Focus high level events will highlight commitments in each of the 12 LPAA Action Areas.

The LPAA Focus Thematic Events

The LPAA aims to demonstrate that the transition to a low-emission and climate-resilient social and economic development is both urgent and feasible – politically, economically and technologically. In fact, this transition is already under way. The ‘LPAA Thematic Focus’ events are official high-level thematic events where stakeholders will present issues in their action area and solution pathways to tackle these issues.

The 12 LPAA Thematic Focus events are intended to develop an in-depth understanding of the high stakes of inaction and share solutions in each area that hold great potential to accelerate transformational change.

Each action-oriented LPAA Focus is a venue to showcase: the breadth of results already achieved in this particular LPAA action area; new individual and cooperative announcements and commitments from non-state and state actors; and what needs to be done in the coming years.

The LPAA Focus events taken together should provide a clear vision of the magnitude of change happening right now on this planet. By emphasizing real world examples and demonstrating opportunities to curb emissions and increase resilience, these events will show how individual and collaborative leadership can accelerate transformation today and increase engagement over time.

Action Day - 5 December 2015

During the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) on December 2014 in Lima (COP20), Christiana Figueres, the Executive Secretary of the UNFCCC, and Laurent Fabius, the President of COP21 were invited to organize a high level event to enhance the implementation of climate action.

The event will be convened on 5 December 2015 in Le Bourget. Building on the work done under the Lima-Paris Action Agenda, the Action Day will highlight the existing momentum for scaled-up engagement by non-state actor as well as state actors and show the power of multi-stakeholder action.
