Hundreds of city representatives flocked to the European Parliament today 15 October for the 2015 Ceremony launching the New Integrated Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy, less than two months ahead of the COP 21 international summit in Paris.
Since 2009 onwards, some 6500 local authorities have already committed to the 2020 CO2 reduction objective. As part of the "New Integrated Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy", signatory cities will pledge action to support implementation of the new 2030 EU targets, a joint approach to tackling mitigation and adaptation to climate change, and the extension of the initiative to a more global scope.
