According to Bloomberg New Energy Finance, renewable energy is likely to reap as much as two-thirds of the $7.7 trillion in investment forecast for building new power plants globally by 2030.

Declining costs are making renewable energy more competitive with fossil fuels. Bloomberg New Energy Finance says that about half of the investment will be in Asia, the region where power capacity will grow the most.

These investments will play a key role in helping global carbon dioxide emissions peak by the end of the next decade, so that the world stands a chance of staying below the internationally agreed maximum two degrees Celsius global average temperature rise.
