Building resilient societies and economies will be key to coping with climate change. Many nations and communities are already doing this but far greater action and ambition will be needed to cost effectively manage the risks and impacts of extreme weather events now and into the future.

Two publications were launched by the The Adaptation Committee, which provide information to developing countries on support available for the process to formulate and implement National Adaptation Plans (NAPs), as well as provide an overview of the achievements of the Adaptation Committee over the past three years.

‘’Navigating the landscape of support for the process to formulate and implement NAPs – 2015 Overview for developing countries’ is a go-to publication for countries for mobilizing external support for NAPs. It highlights the state of play of available support for NAPs under the UNFCCC and from multilateral, regional and bilateral institutions.

Information is clustered in six sections:

  • Guidance and resources
  • Financial support
  • Support to build and strengthen technical and institutional capacity
  • Technological support
  • Systematic observation, science and climate services
  • Knowledge and information provision and sharing

The second publication is called "Enhancing coherent action on adaptation 2012-2015 – 2015 Overview Report’’. It outlines the achievements to date and plans for the future of the Adaptation Committee. The publication specifically highlights the work of the Adaptation Committee to promote the implementation of enhanced action on adaptation. This includes providing technical support and guidance to countries, sharing relevant information, knowledge, experience and good practices. It also promotes synergies and strengthening the engagement with national, regional and international organizations, centres and networks, amongst others.

The publication clearly demonstrates that the Committee is ready to take on new and emerging tasks to sustain and enhance the momentum created for addressing adaptation. For more information

About the Adaptation Committee

Established in 2010, the Adaptation Committee promotes enhanced adaptation action in a coherent manner both within and outside the UNFCCC. It is the overall advisory body on adaptation to the Conference of the Parties (COP) and is the only Committee under the United Nations that comprehensively addresses adaptation. The Adaptation Committee is composed of 16 members, with representation of the five UN regional groups, Small Islands Developing States, and developed and developing countries.
